What was your first word or your child’s first word (or your friend’s child or your sibling’s or your co-workers)? People tend to think “Mama” is the first word…but not always! Carol Martin (professor in our department) has a friend whose child’s first word was “lawnmower!” My son’s first word was “airplane”; my daughter had 10 words when she was 12 months old, so I don’t remember which came first. My first grandson’s words were “bird” and “basketball hoop!” Let’s see how many first words we can document. Also, for fun, look through people’s first words and if you find someone whose word was the same as yours, then post the number “2” (or 3 or 4 or whatever number you find) next to your word. So, if your first word was “Mama” and 5 other people posted that before you with that first word, then you would post “Mama – 6”.
